Replacing older veneers and crowns

Replacing existing restorations is a different problem from starting with natural teeth.

Older work tends to have aged at a different rate to the teeth around it — shifting in colour, or staining at the margin where the restoration meets the gum. Any new work has to be planned against what is already in the mouth, and the decision of what to replace and what to leave is part of the treatment rather than an afterthought.
