Catching decay before it spreads

Decay does not stop on its own. Left alone it works inwards through the tooth towards the nerve, and what would have been a filling becomes root canal treatment or an extraction.

Treated at this stage the repair is straightforward and most of the tooth is preserved. This is the argument for regular check-ups rather than waiting for pain, since decay is usually painless until it is deep.
